A conversation I had earlier today, a poem I read, a song I heard, all of these involving different people, different events, all seemed to have a common motif, pretty inspirational to write about ;).  The main focus will be on the song, because, let’s face it, that is how I most relate to the world.  For a band known primarily as being very depressive, and that I personally have not been a big fan of in general since their first album (well 2nd, technically), Staind singer Aaron Lewis really hit home with me today with the song “So Far Away.”  This song works on a few different angles to me.  First, acceptance.  This is my life, he opens up with, and goes even beyond that.  Not only simple acceptance but he actually welcomes his life.  “I am who I am and I’m proud to be,” is what this song says to me.  There is a little bit of fear, that life is too good, I must be sleeping, but then those fears are ultimately put to rest and the acceptance that “yes this actually is my life” returns.

It’s a song that makes me think of all the things I’ve done, choices I’ve made throughout my life.  People that have come and gone, friendships made and lost.  I guess the point here is, that I wouldn’t change it.  Maybe it’s not what I had planned at one point or another, but all those choices, mistakes or not, have led me here, and here is good.

Anyway, enough blabber, today’s a song day, so enjoy.

This is my life
It’s not what it was before
All these feelings I’ve shared
These are my dreams
That I’d never lived before
Somebody shake me cause I
I must be sleeping

Now that we’re here, so far away
All the struggle we thought was in vain
All the mistakes one life contained
They all finally start to go away
Now that we’re here, so far away
And I feel like I can face the day
I can’t forget that I’m not ashamed
To be the person that I am today

These are my words
That I’ve never said before
I think I’m doin’ okay
This is the smile
That I’ve never shown before
Somebody shake me cause I
I must be sleeping

Now that we’re here, so far away
All the struggle we thought was in vain
All the mistakes one life contained
They all finally start to go away
Now that we’re here, so far away
And I feel like I can face the day
I can’t forget that I’m not ashamed
To be the person that I am today

I’m so afraid of waking
Please don’t shake me
Afraid of waking
Please don’t shake me

Now that we’re here, so far away
All the struggle we thought was in vain
All the mistakes one life contained
They all finally start to go away
Now that we’re here, so far away
And I feel like I can face the day
I can’t forget that I’m not ashamed
To be the person that I am today
